What Global Buyers Are Asking: AHC Insights from PLMA Chicago and Canton Fair

As November comes to a close, the AHC team reflects on a high-impact month exhibiting at two major trade shows: PLMA Chicago and the Autumn Edition of the Canton Fair in Guangzhou, China. With buyers from over 100 countries across both events, the questions they asked reveal clear industry priorities and where innovation is heading next.

Functional Claims Take Center Stage

More brands are looking beyond basic wet wipes. They want specialized claims such as 99.9 percent antibacterial action, after-sun care, or odor removal for pets, all backed by clear testing and certifications. This demand spans beauty, medical and household categories.

"We had numerous conversations about water-based wipes that still deliver performance," said Gopal Natarajan, Global Accounts Director at AHC. "Brandswant 99 percent or 99.9 percent water wipes with added functions like soothing or antifungal ingredients, especially in the baby and feminine care segments."

Retailers are especially interested in ingredient transparency and on-pack storytelling, aiming to compete with premium direct-to-consumer brands.

Demand for Sustainable Wipes Is Growing, But with Regional Nuances

Both fairs showed strong interest in biodegradable wet wipes, but the approach varies by region.

“At the Canton Fair, many buyers from LATAM and Southeast Asia asked how to balance price and green materials,” shared William Romero, International Sales Manager. “For emerging markets, we see more focus on durability, shelf-life and multipurpose formats than on plastic-free certification alone.”

AHC’s offerings such as plant-based spunlace, PCR packaging and plastic-free solutions were among the most requested samples at both fairs. Visitors also valued AHC’s ability to adapt SKUs by climate, retail type or shipping constraints.
